Imagine the Possibility

A perfect first dance for a lifetime of romance

Congratulations On Your Engagement!

We are so excited that you have chosen to prepare for your big day by taking ballroom dance lessons! Whether your goal in commemorating your first dance is simply to “not rock back and forth on the dance floor” or if it is to “stand out and look like we know what we’re doing,” the Arthur Murray School of Dance is the best place to get started!

We offer the following programs for our love-birds:

Wedding Consultation

Your first step at the Arthur Murray Schools of Dance will be to schedule your personalized wedding consultation with one of our certified instructors. During this 40 minute appointment, your instructor will determine what type of program would be best to help you create the perfect first-dance based on your vision, song choice, dance floor size, and more factors. You and your fiancé will also be introduced to elements of dance that will then be used to match a style of dance to the song of your choice.
By observing you and your fiancé’s unique learning style, your instructor will be able to develop a personalized plan for your dancing that will help you learn as quickly as possible without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you decide on a choreographed piece that you can practice and polish for your wedding day, or if you prefer free-style skills that will allow you to dance to your first-dance song and other songs during your reception, the consultation will allow us to provide the best wedding dance program for your needs. We look forward to getting started with you!

The Essential Wedding Program

Once you have had the initial consultation, your instructor will make a recommendation of a wedding program to help you reach your dancing goals. The Essential Wedding Program gives you and your fiancé 4 lessons to learn the basic movements and patterns you will need to be able to dance to your wedding song. You and your instructor will decide if this will include any type of choreography or if you would prefer just knowing a few patterns to dance to the music. Certainly an upgrade from the “clutch and rock” most wedding couples hope to avoid, this program will give you everything you need to know to create a special experience during your first dance.

The Enhanced Wedding Program

With our most popular six-lesson program, you and your partner will have the opportunity to develop a more polished first-dance. Choreographed wedding dances will look and feel smoother and more natural with at least six lessons to practice and learn the material. This program will allow your instructor to create a dynamic introduction, stylized material, and a creative ending to your choreographed dance.
If you and your spouse-to-be would prefer to navigate the dance floor without choreography, these lessons will focus on how to create moments that stand out to your audience and how to stay on time with music and each other. Contact us today if you are ready to get started feeling confident in your dancing for your wedding day!

The Happily-Ever-After Wedding Program

For the couple wishing to truly surprise their friends and family on their wedding day, this program will give you the perfect opportunity to do so. Our clients have found that 8-10 lessons give them the best preparation for performing a spectacular dance at their wedding. Whether you present a fully choreographed dance together or just want to display your newly-acquired natural dancing abilities, this program will give you the polished final product of your vision.
Your instructor will have the time to plan your dance beyond the basics of just knowing where to put your feet and will help you understand how to dance with style and poise. This ensures that you and your fiancé will photograph (or even be videotaped) to your best advantage during the dance. The Happily-Ever-After program gives you the opportunity to create a memorable experience that will last a lifetime.
Unsure which program is the right fit for you? Not to worry; your instructor will be able to make a professional recommendation for you immediately following your personalized wedding dance consultation. We know that planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but the good news is that your first dance doesn’t have to be! All you have to do is give us a call to get started today!

Wedding Dance Tips

Here are a few tips from the dance experts to consider for the big day:

  • Don’t wait until the last minute. Remember that the schedule will get very hectic as the wedding day approaches. Dance instructors recommend starting four to six months earlier to allow more time for practice, especially if our students are newcomers to dancing.
  • It’s OK if you haven’t chosen a song. On your very first lesson we will introduce you to the main dances most couples use. We can help make suggestions depending on which dance you like and do the best. If you already have a song chosen, bring it with you!
  • Be patient when learning. Dancing is a great stress reliever, and a fun date night, so don’t put too much pressure on each other.
  • Don’t try to teach your fiance. You’ll both have a lot more fun dancing if you let your instructor do the teaching.
  • Practice in the right shoes. Wear shoes to your lessons that are similar to the ones you’ll be wearing on the big day.
  • Be consistent with your appointments. The more often you come in, the less review there will be on each lesson.
  • Plan at least once a week to get the most from your lessons.
  • Use the classes & practices when possible. Everyone feels most comfortable on a private lesson, but the classes and parties will be closer to what the rest of your reception will be like, and the teachers will be there to help!
